Shelf Road 2013.09.21-22

Join RMFI for the 21st annual Shelf Road volunteer weekend near Canon City. Held in conjunction with National Public Lands Day, this event is designed as an opportunity to give back to our public lands, while also celebrating them by taking advantage of the recreation opportunities at Shelf Road. Participants will be encouraged to explore the area after the work day on Saturday.

Shelf Road, a few miles north of Canon City, is one of the most popular sport climbing areas along the Front Range. RMFI began working with the Bureau of Land Management 21 years ago in an attempt to improve the trail infrastructure at Shelf Road. We have made many upgrades to trails in the area, and will continue to restore and improve access to the climbing walls.

Come volunteer one or both days. Our workdays will run from 8:30 until 4:00. Camping is available at The Sand Gulch campground and is free for program participants. The campground has toilets and picnic tables; it does not have potable water.

RMFI will be hosting a special Volunteer Appreciation Happy Hour on Saturday evening – we will provide snacks and goodies from both the Access Fund and the BLM!
