Waldo Canyon Fire Restoration

The fire may be out, but as the recent floods have shown us, the work isn't done!

The Waldo Canyon Trail has historically been one of the most popular hikes in the Colorado Springs region. The Waldo Canyon Fire of 2012 caused severe damage to the trail and the surrounding areas, causing a closure of this trail since the fire. Initial work will be completed on the trail to mitigate flooding damage and to improve trail tread. Stay tuned as RMFI will eventually be working to stabilize hillslopes and revegetate the area!

All workdays are led by RMFI's trained field instructors who lead volunteers in implementing restoration techniques. This is fun, challenging, but rewarding work! Join us for this unique opportunity to get into the Waldo Burn and help with its recovery.
