This is a community stewardship opportunity, where we welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and communities. Feel free to come with friends and/or family members! Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Note that most volunteer days are not suited for children under 10 years old.

Land Acknowledgment

This is a community stewardship day, which we acknowledge takes place on the traditional unceded territory of the Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute), and Cheyenne Nations*. We acknowledge the painful history of genocide and forced occupation of their territory, and we honor and respect the many diverse indigenous people connected to this land on which our stewardship days take place.

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and communities. Feel free to come with a friend(s) and/or family member(s)! Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Note that most volunteer days are not suited for children under 10 years old.

Meeting location:
For this workday, we will be meeting at the RMFI Office (maps link provided below). Due to parking in Manitou being limited or paid we will carpool in RMFI vehicles and potentially a few volunteer vehicles to an approved parking location for this workday.

RMFI Office

Time: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm*

This timeframe is to accommodate driving time to and from Manitou Open Space and the RMFI Office.

Please register online by 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 6th. If you are able, please register for this stewardship day online; however, we will provide paper copies of the registration form on-site. Activity:
The project addresses the need to improve a highly eroded switchback by constructing timber steps and a retaining wall below the summit of Red Mountain. Additional tasks include removal of defunct structures and stumps, construction of drains along with transportation of timbers and hardware to the worksite. This is very strenuous work with a minimum of 2 miles of hiking and 924 elevation gain round trip. Be prepared for a rewarding day of trail work! If you have concerns about accessibility on this stewardship day, please reach out to us, or for your reference please use our Trail Terminology Guide to learn more about this activity.

Before registering for the day, please review our FAQs from volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
