Waldo Canyon Trail Workday

Waldo Canyon Trail Workday

Friday, October 24, 2014
8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

The Waldo Canyon Trail was heavily impacted by the Waldo Canyon Fire and has been closed to the public since 2012. Pre-fire, this 6.8 mile multi-use trail averaged around 95,000 visitors annually. The convenient access off Highway 24 and ability to hike year-round made it one of the most popular trails within the Pikes Peak Ranger District.

Rocky Mountain Field Institute has commenced work to protect the infrastructure of the Waldo Trail to mitigate further degradation caused by stormwater runoff from the Canyon above.

On Friday, October 24, 2014, RMFI will host an open enrollment volunteer workday in which members of the public are invited to grab a shovel, hike in, and experience what has happened to the Waldo Trail since the 2012 fire. Volunteers will get an exclusive look at the highly-damaged trail while getting the chance to give back to the area.
