Due to the COVID-19 crisis and with concern for the health and safety of our volunteers and staff, RMFI has cancelled community volunteer workdays scheduled for the month of May.

Celebrate COLORADO PUBLIC LANDS DAY with a weekend of stewardship and fun at Guffey Gorge! Guffey Gorge, aka Paradise Cove, is a popular day-use recreation spot offering visitors opportunities to swim, hike, scramble, or just relax and enjoy the views. It is located approximately 12 miles away from the town of Guffey, Colorado.

RMFI is partnering with the Bureau of Land Management, Royal Gorge Field Office, to improve the access trail to this little spot of paradise by installing rock steps and other trail features. This will be more technical but very rewarding work! Hike to the worksite from the trailhead and back will be just about 1.5 mile roundtrip.

We will be working BOTH days, Saturday and Sunday, May 16 through 17, and we invite and encourage volunteers to work both days and camp out with us! Meals will be provided to camping volunteers for Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast, and Sunday packable sack lunches.

Volunteers wishing to camp should bring their own camping gear (tent, sleeping pad, sleeping pad, etc.) This is primitive car camping (no running water or restrooms) not far from the worksite at Guffey Gorge. Volunteers may also choose to volunteer on just one day. Please indicate which day(s) you will join us upon registration, and any dietary restrictions you have if staying for the campout.

All volunteers who wish to stay and play at the cove after trail work wraps up at 3:00 either day should bring their recreational attire to keep in their vehicles at the trailhead! Playing at the cove is at the participants' own risk.
