Severe rain events in fall of 2013 caused soil and branches to pile up near the playground equipment and on the soccer fields at Black Forest Regional Park. With the help of FedEx empolyees, RMFI will be bringing our hard hats and McLeods out to complete flood mitigation and to plant native species to revegetate the area. We often find hydrophobic (water repellent) soils following fires in this region. We will scarify (till) the soil to minimize this layer and spread native seed to encourage native plant communities to reestablish in the park. We will also build erosion control structures to minimize soil loss and mitigate those downstream flows that are affecting Shoup Road and the playground equipment.
This is a closed group workday. Please return to our calendar for additional volunteer opportunities. For custom group scheduling contact Molly Mazel, Volunteer Coordinator, (719) 471-7736 ext. 4# or molly@rmfi.org
