Strenuous
On this weekend project, we will spend Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30 continuing the work to construct a new and improved Devils Playground Trail on Pikes Peak! Tasks will include new trail corridor clearance, timber wall construction, and other necessary project work. The hike to the worksite and back each day is estimated to be 1.5-2 miles one-way depending on project progress throughout the summer leading up to the volunteer weekend.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have transitioned this two-day camping weekend into two separate day projects. This registration is for Saturday, August 29!

Volunteer Calendar

RMFI is partnering with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), the U.S. Forest ServiceNational Forest Foundation Find Your Fourteener campaign, and Friends of the Peak so that together we can do more on our majestic Fourteeners. We are working collaboratively to increase the pace and scale of trail improvements and ecological restoration. Our vision is to work together to build and maintain a sustainable trails network, ensuring these peaks remain healthy and inviting for decades to come! With help from skilled, passionate volunteers like you, we can complete even more on-the-ground work on Colorado’s Fourteeners.

We will be hosting volunteers on a staggered basis with start times to avoid groups larger than 10 individuals. Once you register, you will be assigned one of the time slots below:

  • 7:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • 8:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

This moderately strenuous program entails a full day of trailwork! No prior experience is necessary, however, participants must be in good physical condition and comfortable with hiking and working at 10,000+ feet of elevation.

COVID-19 Guidelines & Procedures:

Please review RMFI's FAQs from volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic prior to registering for this volunteer day. For this project, we are only allowing volunteers who are 18 years of age or older to participate in this volunteer weekend. In addition, if you are part of an at-risk group, you are encouraged to continue to stay at home unless absolutely necessary. Also, if you live with or are in close contact with vulnerable individuals, we ask that you reconsider participating in this volunteer workday.

RMFI will not be requiring our screening questionnaire for this event. On the day of the event, VOC staff will perform a temperature check on all volunteers as well as require volunteers to complete a questionnaire to self-asses their health risks.
