Pikes Peak Summit Reclamation

SATURDAY, JULY 28TH, 2018, 7 AM - 4 PM

We revisit the tundra reclamation project for another day, focusing on the summit's west side.

Construction of a new summit house has begun on top of Pikes Peak! As this work will impact sensitive alpine tundra, we will be digging up vegetation plugs from the site of the new building's future foundation and transplanting them on other parts of the summit where they will be able to continue to grow undisturbed.

This is not strenuous work in itself but will be performed well above treeline where oxygen is greatly reduced and conditions can be variable. We recommended this workday for volunteers accustomed to physical activity at high altitude.

  • 7 AM to 4 PM
  • Minimum age requirement is 16.
  • We will carpool up the mountain from the RMFI office.
If you have questions, or would like to register a group for this workday, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Molly at molly@rmfi.org or 719-471-7736 ext. 4#
