Project Type
Foothills
Project Status
Current Project

The Lori Cohen Charitable Trust improves trails throughout the Colorado Springs community, punctuated with benches with the inscription "What a Perfect Day", her favorite expression. Dr. Lori Cohen's legacy lives on at UCCS with the creation of the Lori Cohen Memorial Trail and the Cohen Endowment to maintain the trail and her legacy in perpetuity. The Lori Cohen Memorial 5k Trail is on the North Side of the UCCS Campus, open to the public this trail abuts Austin Bluffs Open Space (ABOS) the overarching name for an interconnected group of parks and open spaces in the center of Colorado Springs. These parcels include Pulpit Rock Park, University Park Open Space, and Austin Bluffs Open Space. The Lori Cohen Trail is used by the school and various student activities and for public recreation including hiking, mountain biking, and more. Due to the newer establishment of this official trail and the Master Plan for ABOS being implemented, the proliferation of rogue trails throughout the properties has been significant. This requires direct efforts to aid in the preservation, protection, and maintenance of the natural and cultural resources alongside ongoing maintenance of the trail system to ensure it's long term sustainability for all users.
